Independent Council of People of African Descent
Many decisions that affect communities of African descent are shaped through long and often complex policy processes. ICOPAD tracks, monitors, and engages with these processes to ensure community priorities are visible and represented.
ICOPAD identifies key policy and institutional processes it engages with or monitors, explains our role in each, and shows how community priorities are translated into structured input within those frameworks.
This page provides an overview of:
ICOPAD is coordinating community input for the European Commission's review of anti-discrimination frameworks. This process involves consultations with grassroots organisations, policy analysis, and structured submissions to ensure that the lived experiences and priorities of communities of African descent are reflected in EU policy.
ICOPAD contributed to the mid-term review of the UN Decade for People of African Descent by consolidating input from diaspora communities across Europe. The submission addressed gaps in implementation, highlighted community priorities, and proposed concrete recommendations for the second half of the Decade.
ICOPAD coordinated community responses to the European Commission's public consultation on the EU Action Plan Against Racism. The consultation process involved grassroots organisations, policy experts, and community representatives, resulting in a comprehensive submission that reflected the priorities and lived experiences of people of African descent.
ICOPAD's submission was acknowledged by the European Commission. Key recommendations were incorporated into the final Action Plan, including stronger language on structural racism and enhanced monitoring mechanisms.
